Scope

This policy applies to Kids Code Academy websites, apps, and related services (collectively, “Services”). It explains what data we collect, how we use and share it, and your choices. If terms differ for a particular feature, we will clearly present them at the point of collection.

We design our Services with child safety first and implement age-appropriate safeguards, moderation, and privacy defaults.

Data we collect

We collect the minimum necessary information to operate and improve our learning platform.

  • Account details: name, username, parent/guardian email for child accounts, and password hash.
  • Learning activity: courses enrolled, progress, projects, achievements, and session timestamps.
  • Support and safety: messages you send us, reports, moderation logs, and permissions/consent records.
  • Technical: device/browser type, language, approximate location (from IP), and diagnostics such as crash logs.

Sensitive data is never required for children’s accounts. We do not collect precise location, biometric identifiers, or advertising identifiers from child users.

How we use data

  • Provide and personalize lessons, projects, and progress tracking.
  • Maintain safety: enforce rules, prevent fraud/abuse, and provide age-appropriate experiences.
  • Improve our Services: troubleshoot, test new features, and analyze aggregated usage.
  • Communicate with you: account notices, parental consent requests, and product updates.

We do not use children’s data for targeted advertising.

Cookies and technology

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and measure performance. You can control your choices via the cookie banner or the Manage cookies control on this page.

Optional updates and surveys. You can opt out any time.

Sharing

We share data only with trusted service providers who process it on our behalf under strict contracts, and only for the purposes described here.

  • Service providers: hosting, analytics (when enabled), and customer support tools.
  • Legal and safety: to comply with the law, respond to legal requests, or protect users.
  • Academic research: de-identified and aggregated data, where allowed.

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards: encryption in transit, hashed passwords, role-based access, and regular audits. We train staff on privacy and child safety.

Retention

We keep data only as long as necessary for the purposes described, to comply with legal obligations, or to resolve disputes. Parents/guardians can request deletion of a child account at any time.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, object to, or delete your data. Use the request form below or contact us directly. We will verify identity and respond within applicable timeframes.

Children’s privacy

We build with child safety by design. For users under the age of digital consent (as defined by local law), we:

  • Require parental/guardian email for account creation and verification.
  • Use child-friendly defaults (private profiles, muted public features) and no targeted ads.
  • Moderate interactions, filter user-generated content, and provide reporting tools.
  • Offer transparent controls to parents/guardians and honor deletion requests.

If you believe a child provided personal data without consent, contact us and we will promptly take action.

International

We may process data on servers in different regions. Where applicable, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses. Local privacy rights continue to apply.

Changes

We will update this policy when needed. If changes are material, we will notify account holders or display a notice within the Services. The “Last updated” date reflects the latest revision.
